Welcome to Agile Learning Center’s afterNOON program
ALC’s afternoon program is a place to make, play, explore, and spend time with other young people. Open to ages 6 to 17 years old*, the program runs Monday through Thursday, with a different program each day. There’s time for engaging activities as well as the choice, independence, and supportive community at the heart of ALC. Choose what interests you and build a week that works for you!

Spring 2027 offerings
ASL – Beginner
Mondays, 3:30-5:20pm
Ages: 8+
Max class size: 10
ASL instructor: Maureen Collins
Explore American Sign Language in a lively, hands-on class led by Maureen Collins, a Deaf educator and native ASL signer. Maureen learned ASL at age three, earned a BA from Gallaudet University and an MA in Education from NYU, taught at PS 47 for 28 years, and taught ASL at NYU for six years. She is excited to join us as an after-school facilitator and says, “Teaching ASL has always been something I truly love. It is a beautiful and expressive language, and I enjoy sharing it with others and helping people develop an appreciation for Deaf culture and the language.”
Students will build practical communication skills through everyday ASL vocabulary, basic conversation, interactive signing activities, fingerspelling and the ASL alphabet. Each session includes instruction with Maureen until 5pm, with students invited to stay until 5:20pm for informal practice, games, and conversation.
SELF-DIRECTED
Tuesdays, 3:30-5:20pm
Ages: 6+
Max class size: 8
Facilitator: Arthur Velwest
Get to know what it means to be “self-directed” on Thursday afternoons at ALC. Enjoy time, space, tools, and support to follow what interests you. Build something, make art or music, play a game, work on a project, find collaborators, or start something entirely new.
Facilitators are there to offer ideas, resources, and help when it’s useful, while young people decide how they want to spend their time and what they want to explore in our space.
Photography
Wednesdays, 3:30-5:20pm
Ages: 10+ (or with facilitator approval)
Max class size: 8
Instructor: Isa Frost
Learn to see the world through a photographer’s eye. After time to snack and settle in, students explore fundamentals like light, shadow, composition, perspective, reflections, portraiture, and creative techniques, then head into Central Park for a guided photo walk to put them into practice.
All ages and experience levels are welcome, and any camera—from a smartphone to a professional camera—will work. The class is led by an internationally exhibited photographer whose work has been shown in New York and around the world.
Dungeons & dragons
Thursdays, 3:30-5:20pm
Ages: 8+
Max class size: 6
Game Master: Arthur Velwest
Join us for exciting, collaborative gameplay adapted to your play style. Together with the other players, we’ll craft a story driven by the characters we create, and the choices we make.
Led by our own skilled Game Master with over 10 years of experience, students will learn collaborative storytelling, improvisational techniques, and social problem solving. Whether this is your first time, or your hundredth, this is an adventure you’re sure to remember for years to come!
Come be part of the story.
