ALC-NYC is an accredited, nonprofit. K-12 micro-school for self-directed learners located off NE Central Park, where the Upper East Side meets Harlem.
About the School
Agile Learning Center in New York City is an independent, K-12 micro-school for self-directed learners that has been operating in NYC since 2013. Students at ALC NYC individualize their learning within the context of a supportive mixed age community. We have adapted simple tools for self-organization and intentional culture creation to support young people in engaging with their passions and curiosities while shaping the environment of the school.
Accreditation
In 2026, ALC-NYC added accreditation through the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC), adding an external layer of review to more than a decade of practice and reflection.
The WASC process asks schools to examine their work, gather feedback, identify areas for growth, and continue improving. That emphasis on reflection and iteration aligns closely with how ALC already operates.
